Located in Falmouth Harbour on the beautiful island of Antigua, the Catamaran Hotel is a charming and inclusive accommodation that offers a delightful experience for all guests. Situated in a prime beachfront location, this hotel has gained recognition not only for its exceptional hospitality but also for its unique role as the filming location for the TV show “ The Big Body Hotel .”
With its stunning surroundings and commitment to catering to plus size individuals, the Catamaran Hotel has become a sought-after destination for travelers seeking comfort, relaxation, and a touch of fame.

My Plus Size Experience at The Catamaran Hotel Antigua
While there are a few areas where they could make some improvements, overall, my stay was fantastic, and I highly recommend the Catamaran Hotel as a perfect destination for plus size travelers. Here’s why:
Super Comfy, Wider Chairs: First things first, let’s talk about the chairs! The Catamaran Hotel goes the extra mile to ensure that plus size guests have a comfortable place to sit. Their chairs are wider and sturdier, providing plenty of space and support for everyone. It’s such a relief to be able to relax without worrying about weight limitations. I felt so included and at ease during my stay, knowing that the hotel genuinely cares about my comfort.
Rock-Solid Reinforced Beds: Sweet dreams are made of sturdy beds! At the Catamaran Hotel, they’ve got you covered. Their beds are specially reinforced to provide exceptional support for plus size individuals. It’s like sleeping on a cloud of comfort and peace of mind. The hotel’s attention to detail in making sure that we can rest and recharge without any concerns is truly remarkable. You deserve the best sleep, and the Catamaran Hotel delivers!
Wider and Unbreakable Sunbeds: Let’s talk about lounging by the pool or on the beach. For plus size folks like us, finding a sturdy and reliable sunbed that accommodates our width can be a challenge. But fear not, because the Catamaran Hotel has got our backs! Their sunbeds are not only strong and built to last, but they are also wider than your average sunbed. They provide ample space for us to stretch out and relax comfortably. Soaking up the sun becomes a pure joy when you can fully spread out without any worries. Kudos to the hotel for going the extra mile in ensuring that we can fully enjoy the outdoor spaces, feeling comfortable and secure.
Roomy Showers for Everyone: When it comes to shower time, the Catamaran Hotel truly understands our needs. They provide spacious shower areas that allow us to move around freely and enjoy a refreshing bathing experience. No more feeling cramped or limited in those tiny showers! The thoughtfulness in designing these areas makes a huge difference. They’ve created an environment where plus size guests can fully relax, unwind, and feel confident.
Strong Wooden Beach Cabanas: Picture this: lounging on a beach cabana with the sound of waves gently crashing nearby. At the Catamaran Hotel, they’ve made sure that plus size guests can enjoy this experience to the fullest. Their beach cabanas are crafted from sturdy wood, providing a strong and reliable space to relax and soak up the sun. You can feel secure and at ease while taking in the breathtaking beach views. It’s a true testament to the hotel’s commitment to our comfort and enjoyment.
Areas for Improvement: The Catamaran Hotel Antigua
While the Catamaran Hotel Antigua does an exceptional job in catering to plus size guests, there are a couple of areas where they could make some improvements. Firstly, the towels provided in the rooms were a bit on the smaller side, comfortably accommodating up to a UK size 24 at most. It would be fantastic if they could offer larger towels as this is a worry for a lot of fat people while travelling.
Additionally, the overall space in the bathrooms could be expanded to provide more room for maneuverability and convenience, especially when two plus size guests are sharing a room. If I was travelling with a friend, for example, I would find it difficult to change in the bathroom and may not feel comfortable changing in front of them in the bedroom. Expanding the bathroom area or adding separate dressing areas would greatly enhance the overall comfort and convenience for plus size guests.
It’s also worth noting that some plus size guests might find the pool a bit challenging to get into. There were a number of steps into the pool, but there was no handrail to hold onto, which made it a little difficult for as I am incredibly clumsy.

Every morning I got to wake up to the soothing sound of waves and step onto the soft sand just a few steps away from my room. Whether you prefer leisurely walks along the shoreline, sunbathing on the beach chairs, or taking a refreshing dip in the ocean, this hotel provides direct access to a beautiful beachfront where you can relax and enjoy the tropical paradise.
Friendly and Welcoming Staff: The Catamaran Hotel takes pride in its friendly and accommodating staff. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be greeted with warm smiles and attentive service. The staff members are known for their helpfulness, ensuring that your needs and requests are met promptly. Whether you need assistance with arranging activities, recommendations for local attractions, or simply a friendly conversation, the staff at the Catamaran Hotel will make you feel right at home.
On-Site Restaurant: Hungry? No need to venture far. The Catamaran Hotel boasts an on-site restaurant, offering convenient dining options for guests with an incredible view of the ocean. With a cozy and inviting atmosphere, the on-site restaurant is the perfect place to savour delicious meals, unwind with a refreshing drink and indulge in the culinary delights without having to leave the comfort of the hotel.
A few things to bear in mind:
Room Cleanliness: While the Catamaran Hotel offers many positive experiences, there are a few areas that could use improvement. Some of the guests that were staying at the same time as me mentioned that the rooms were not as clean as they expected.
Limited Restaurant Availability in Low Season: During the low season, it’s important to note that the on-site restaurant may not be open every night.
Limited Breakfast Options: At the Catamaran Hotel Antigua, you do not have the option to choose your breakfast each morning. You get a choice of drink, but the breakfast selection each morning is the same for everyone. While the food was good, I did worry I’d come across a breakfast I didn’t like.
All in all, the Catamaran Hotel in Antigua is a paradise for plus size travelers like us. Their commitment to providing wider, stronger chairs, reinforced beds, unbreakable and wider sunbeds, roomy showers, and sturdy wooden beach cabanas shows how much they care about our comfort and happiness. While there’s room for improvement in terms of towel sizes, bathroom space, and pool accessibility, I wholeheartedly recommend the Catamaran Hotel for an inclusive and unforgettable experience. They truly embrace plus size guests with open arms, making us feel valued and welcome throughout our stay.
