Delta and its close partner airline LATAM are adding more flights from the U.S. to both Colombia and Peru, giving travelers – and especially frequent Delta flyers – more options for getting to South America.
The additions include Delta bringing back nonstop flights to Cartagena (CTG) in Colombia, a destination the Atlanta-based airline hasn't flown to since the pandemic. While Delta is expanding its presence down to Bogota (BOG) with another daily flight from Atlanta, South America's LATAM is also adding flights to both Medellín, Colombia (MDE) and Lima (LIM) in Peru, too.
Most of the routes are scheduled to begin this fall aside from Delta's nonstop to Cartagena, which resumes just before Christmas. Flights are expected to go on sale Saturday, June 17.
It's the latest example of Delta's expanding reach in the region . After falling far short of its competitors in South America, Delta bought a major stake in LATAM back in 2019. Along with a joint venture between the airlines, that gives Delta a seat at the table when it comes to deciding new routes between the U.S. and Latin America, particularly from Delta's own hubs.
And it's perfect timing, as plenty more travelers are looking to head south. Data from Airlines for America shows that more travelers are heading to Latin America (not including Mexico) than at the same point in 2019 – especially Colombia, which is seeing 24% more passenger arrivals from the U.S. than pre-pandemic.
Delta's New Flights to Colombia
Delta itself is adding two additional routes down to Colombia. While neither destination is brand new, they're exciting options nonetheless.
For the first time in more than three years, Delta will resume flying nonstop to Cartagena, Colombia (CTG) from Atlanta (ATL). The route is scheduled to begin Dec. 22 – just in time for summer in the southern hemisphere – with three flights a week on a Boeing 757.
Flights from Atlanta (ATL) to Cartegena (CTG) depart at 9:50 a.m. and arrive at 1:55 p.m.
Flights from Cartegena (CTG) to Atlanta (ATL) depart at 3:20 p.m. and arrive at 7:35 p.m.
Delta is also adding a second daily flight between Atlanta and Bogota. Delta will begin flying the route on Oct.29 on Delta's Boeing 757 aircraft.
Flights from Atlanta (ATL) to Bogota (BOG) depart at 9:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. and arrive at 2:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., respectively.
Flights from Bogota (BOG) to Atlanta (ATL) depart at 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and arrive at 2:35 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.
LATAM Adds Flights to Medellín, Lima
LATAM has some new destinations in store.
LATAM is launching daily service between Miami (MIA) and Medellín, Colombia (MDE) on Oct. 29. The route will operate on one of LATAM's Airbus A320s.
Flights from Miami (MIA) and Medellín (MDE) depart at 6:30 p.m. and arrive at 9:55 p.m.
Flights from Medellin (MDE) to Miami (MIA) depart at 12:30 p.m. and arrive at 3:55 p.m.
LATAM is also starting service between Atlanta and Lima, Peru (LIM) beginning Oct. 29. It'll be the Latin American airline's first-ever route in and out of Atlanta. The route will operate three times per week on LATAM's Boeing 767.
Flights from Atlanta (ATL) to Lima (LIM) depart at 10:45 p.m. and arrive at 5:40 a.m. the following day.
Flights from Lima (LIM) to Atlanta (ATL) depart at 12 p.m. and arrive at 7:10 p.m.
Delta already flies daily from Atlanta to Lima, but this gives flyers yet another way to get down to Peru. And thanks to Delta's partnership with LATAM, all these flights should be bookable with Delta SkyMiles .
Bottom Line
Delta is adding more flights to South America through its close partnership with LATAM airlines, giving travelers more options for getting down to some of the most popular destinations in the southern hemisphere.
And loyal Delta flyers will be able to use their SkyMiles to book flights (or earn SkyMiles when paying cash) on either airline flying down to Colombia and Peru this year or next.
