Delta Posts $735 Million Profit, Apologizes for ‘Rough Six Weeks’

Delta Air Lines announced financial results for the second quarter of 2022.
The Atlanta-based airline was the first U.S. carrier to announce second-quarter results and reported a net income of $735 million on $13.8 billion in revenue as it flew 18% lower capacity than it had in the same period in 2019.
Delta’s CEO, Ed Bastian, thanked the carrier’s employees for “outstanding work during a challenging operating environment for the industry.”   He also predicted “meaningful full year profitability.”
Domestic travel increased by 3% and transatlantic travel as well as travel to Latin America also showed improvement.
Speaking about the industry-wide travel disruptions over the past six weeks, Bastian was contrite.
“We had a rough six weeks,” Bastian said, apologizing to passengers for the significant flight delays and cancellations. “We’ve issued compensation and the appropriate level of apology.”
