An Admirals Club at JFK
American Airlines said Thursday it would cut thousands of flights scheduled for September and October, while almost simultaneously announced a major renovation program for its Admirals Club airport lounges.
In a statement, the airline termed the reductions “proactive steps to add resiliency into our schedule.”
The world’s largest airline said that the adjustments were only being made in cities with multiple frequencies to a destinations, “with the goal of moving customers to different flights.”
Philadelphia International Airport will see the highest number of cuts, 8.4% in September and 5.3% in October.
The airline also said that the changes are necessary to balance “passenger demand with capacity and staffing.”
Meanwhile, American announced a major renovation project that will result in fully revamped Admirals Club lounges.
The first lounge to be updated is at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The work will be led by Chicago-based DMAC Architecture & Interiors and, at Reagan National, the lounge will feature a large fireplace as well as a spacious bar area with a beamed ceiling made of American walnut.
“The new Admirals Club interior design is inspired by our customers, who tell us that their favorite aspect of visiting our lounges is feeling like they’re ‘coming home,'” said Clarissa Sebastian, the airline’s managing director of premium customer experience, in a statement released to Frequent Business Traveler and The Travelist.
Following that, renovations will occur at Admirals Clubs at Newark Liberty International, Austin-Bergstrom International, and Denver International airports.
