Burger King Mistakenly Sent Hundreds of People Blank Receipts at Midnight

A Burger King in New York City
At least several hundred people – including many who have never signed up for mailings from the Home of the Whopper – received one or more blank receipts for non-existent orders.
The receipts – two of which were received by FBT Editorial Director Jonathan Spira, who is not a customer, and one by News Editor Paul Riegler, who is registered with the burger chain’s loyalty program – arrived shortly after midnight EDT.
“You’re close to flame-grilled goodness” the e-mail read.  “Thanks for ordering from Burger King.  Your order will be ready to be picked up at Burger King located at .”
Without a trace of irony, the e-mail asked recipients to “let us know how you liked ordering.”
The order number as well as the subtotal, total, and payment method were all blank and no menu items were listed.
Recipients of the mysterious e-mail messages who were located both in the United States and the United Kingdom, took to social media to express concern and confusion, both about possible hacking and how the chain had obtained their e-mail addresses.
At press time, Burger King had yet to respond to a request for comment on the incident.
