For more than two decades, I have been traveling and exploring the 82 provinces of the Philippines. Everywhere I go, I am reminded of how beautiful and diverse our country is. After visiting all 82 provinces, I realized there are still so many places I have yet to discover. I am constantly dreaming of new places to explore and experience, and I get opportunities to visit and explore more islands in this archipelago.

Recently, I had the opportunity to join the Domestic Tourism Invitational Program, an exploratory familiarization trip to the beautiful islands of Capiz and Masbate. Organized by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and the provincial tourism offices of Capiz and Masbate, this program aims to showcase the best of these two islands and their connectivity using transportation options like fast crafts and RORO (roll-on roll-off vessels).
We spent our first two nights in Roxas City before embarking on a nine-day journey to the Rodeo Capital of the Philippines – Masbate. It was an incredible experience filled with breathtaking views, fascinating culture, and delicious food.
I was fortunate enough to experience the beauty of Burias Island on a work trip to Masbate. It was one of the most unforgettable trips I’ve had in recent years, and I can see why it’s become a popular destination among tourists! The stunning white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and laid-back island vibe made me feel like I was in paradise. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and I’m so glad I got to experience it. If you’re looking for a more off-the-beaten-path destination, then Burias Island in San Pascual, Masbate, should definitely be at the top of your list!
Tinalisayan Island
Getting to Burias Island
If you plan to visit Burias Island, there are several ways to get there. Here are some options for transportation to Burias Island.
From Mobo Port, Masbate
From Mobo Port in Masbate mainland, take a six-hour RORO ride to Claveria, then another one-hour van ride to San Pascual, the jump-off point to the beautiful islands in Burias.
From San Andres, Quezon
If you are coming from Manila, the fastest and cheapest way to reach Burias Island is by taking a bus to San Andres, Quezon. Buses from Manila take about 9 hours, and bus fare ranges from P500 to P700, depending on bus type.
From San Andres Bus Terminal, take a tricycle for P40 to the port. From the port of San Andres, you can take a RORO ride to the port of San Pascual (about 4 hours). At the port, you can also visit the tourism office for boat rentals.
From Naga City
From Naga City. Take vans and jeepneys from LCC Mall to Pasacao Bus Terminal. The fare is P50, and it takes almost an hour to reach Pasacao Bus Terminal. From Pasacao Bus terminal, you can ride a tricycle to Pasacao Port.
The boats from Pasacao to Burias Island leave at 8 am, 10 am, and around 2 pm. The boat fare is P130 per adult and P65 for kids. There is a terminal fee of 10 PHP.
Arrival in San Pascual, Masbate
San Pascual is the gateway to Burias Island, where tourists usually arrive before heading to the island. The town is accessible via a boat ride from Pasacao Port, which takes around three hours. Upon arrival, tourists must register at the Tourism Office and find a boat for island hopping.
There are three scheduled trips from Pasacao to San Pascual, Burias Island. Coordinating with the Tourism Office at San Pascual port for registration and assistance in renting a boat is recommended. The boat ride from Pasacao to San Pascual can be quite bumpy, so it is advisable to bring motion sickness medication for those prone to seasickness.
Tourists can also purchase supplies in San Pascual before heading to Burias Island. The town has a few stores to buy food, water, and other necessities. However, bringing some supplies from the mainland is also advisable to ensure they have enough provisions during their stay on the island.
Upon arrival in San Pascual, tourists must pay an entrance fee of P20 for Sombrero Island and P10 for Tinalisayan Island. They can also rent a tent or cottage for camping on the island. The camping fee ranges from P150 to P300 depending on the type of accommodation they choose.
