Romantic Beach Getaway: Pueblo Bonita Pacifica

Wander With Wonder - Discovering Wow Moments Around the World or Across the Street
Want to get away with that special someone? Treat them (and yourself) to a stay at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort in Cabo San Lucas.
Many resorts promote themselves as a romantic beach getaway. Still, in my experience, few deliver in the same way as Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort near Cabo San Lucas . This adults-only resort has a laidback, intimate vibe. You can join typical activities like yoga or spend a day exploring Cabo. But if you’re looking for romance, you’ll find plenty of unique opportunities that set Pueblo Bonito Pacifica above the rest.
The Pacifica Property
Pueblo Bonito has nine resorts in Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlán, with another set to open in San Miguel De Allende in the first half of 2023. I stayed at The Towers at Pacifica. Part of the Pacifica property, this resort-within-a-resort has 47 rooms with luxury amenities, including an exclusive oceanfront lounge and 24-hour butler service.

The butler service is top-notch. No, your butler won’t lay out your clothes or help you get dressed. But the British Butler Institute-certified staff member can help with anything else. Need extra towels? Just text. Want a sparkling wine chilling in the room when you arrive? No problem.
Even if you don’t stay in The Towers, you’ll enjoy premium accommodations, two swimming pools, and an expansive, private beach. The Jack Nicklaus signature course at Quivira Golf Club is a short shuttle ride away. You can also take in other local Pueblo Bonito properties. These include Sunset Beach Golf & Spa Resort , Rosé Resort & Spa , and Los Cabos Beach Resort . The property also has a full-service spa for those days you want pampering.

Romantic Things to Do at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica
You don’t need to do anything special to enjoy a romantic getaway. For many, lounging by one of the pools, sharing an oceanside couple’s massage, or strolling on the beach at sunset is special enough. But Pacifica has several experiences designed just for couples who want to take their getaway to the next level.
One is to rent a private beach bed for the day. Not only will you enjoy a curtained bed on the resort’s beach, but you also get butler service. (The experience is free for guests staying in The Tower, but there’s a $40 charge for guests staying elsewhere on the property.)

Another option is the Siesta Turndown Service. Only for guests of The Tower, this experience features a butler-drawn bath, soothing music, aromatherapy, and refreshments.
Another unique option is to have your butler deliver a handmade sarape (a Mexican blanket) and turn down your bed for an afternoon siesta. The sarape is available for purchase with proceeds benefiting Mexican charities.
Romantic Culinary Experiences for Couples
If you want a unique culinary experience for your romantic beach getaway, you can arrange for a guided mezcal or tequila tasting for $35 per person. Want to dive a little deeper into spirits? On Fridays at 2:30 pm, the resort holds a free mixology class. Another option is to book a chef-led cooking class. For $15 per person, the resort’s chef will teach you to prepare a traditional Mexican dish.

My favorite culinary experience was the Hook & Cook. Held on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 am, it allows you to fish from the beach. (No one caught fish the morning I participated.) Whether you catch anything or not, a ceviche bar awaits. Although it’s not a traditional couple’s activity, it is a lot of fun. There is a $20 per person charge for this experience.
Private Dining on the Beach at Pacifica
Nothing is more romantic than a private, candlelit dinner on the beach, which you can arrange for $280 per person. You choose the menu, and then you can customize the experience with floral arrangements, a 30-minute photo session, a string quartet or mariachis, and more. I didn’t experience this, but I can vouch for the staff’s attention to detail and great food. For a special evening, it’s definitely worth the splurge.

If the beach dinner seems too cliché, you can opt for dinner in an indigenous hut instead. The evening starts with the blowing of a conch shell at sunset and continues with craft cocktails. As the music plays, a resort chef will prepare your four-course dinner as you watch.
For a slightly different experience, book a private table at Península overlooking the restaurant's orchard and the ocean. Its four-course dinner focuses on local ingredients prepared in a wood oven or grill. The chef pairs each course with award-winning wines from the Guadalupe Valley.

Other Romantic Dining Options
The Pacifica property has four restaurants. But guests also have the opportunity to dine at the 23 restaurants at its sister resorts and Quivira Golf Club. Some are casual, but quite a few are perfect for a romantic dinner. At Pacifica, Península serves traditional Baja dishes. On the menu, you'll find fresh fish and elegant entrées such as beef tenderloin. Its “resort elegant” dress code and ocean views make it a good onsite choice for a special meal.

Siempre is a little more casual (although there is still a dress code). The upscale restaurant offers diners a choice of pasta and grilled dishes like salmon and a rack of lamb at dinner. There are also surprising dishes, like mussels in a curry sauce. If sushi is more your style, Pescados makes fresh sashimi, maki, and nigiri, all perfect for sharing.

Don’t limit yourself to Pacifica’s restaurants, though. The Quivira Steakhouse at the Quivira Golf Club is what you’d expect—an upscale steakhouse with an impressive wine list and incredible views from the dining room and patio. (Reservations are required, and there’s a $40 surcharge.)

The Market at Quivira at sister property Sunset Beach makes for a fun date night outing. With its food hall atmosphere, you can sample offerings from several kitchens. The market has a deli, sports bar, 1950s diner, creperie, ice cream shop, and coffee shop. You’ll also find Mexican, Italian, and Asian restaurants. Keep in mind that Sunset Beach is not adults-only. There will be kids at these restaurants.
A Truly Romantic Dining Option: La Frida Restaurant
Of all the restaurants I tried during my visit, LaFrida Restaurant was the most romantic. This AAA Four Diamond restaurant features bright artwork on the walls and chandeliers suspended over white-clothed tables with glass-blown heart candle holders. I recommend the totoaba, a local white fish, but you can’t go wrong with any local specialties. Although this restaurant is at Sunset Beach, diners must be at least 16 years old. (Reservations are required, and there is a $40 surcharge for meals.)

Romantic Getaway Activities in Cabo San Lucas
You can easily have a romantic getaway without leaving Pacifica. But Cabo San Lucas has some activities worth looking into if you want to impress that special someone. For starters, consider booking a sailboat cruise . You'll see the area's beautiful coastline, including its famous arch. Some boats offer sunset cruises, while others include activities like snorkeling and fishing. From December through May, you can also take a whale-watching cruise together.

If you love the beach, head to Lovers Beach. It is located between two jagged rock formations and is one of Cabo's most popular swimming beaches. You can take a water taxi, paddleboard, or kayak from the marina. Or you can also sail on a glass-bottom boat from the marina to the beach.
Of course, you don’t have to spend much money or make elaborate plans to have a great day in Cabo. My husband and I had a great time sampling ceviche and people-watching at the marina.

Planning a Romantic Beach Getaway at Pacifica
You can book a stay at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort online. The best time to visit depends on what you want to do. Winter is the most popular time. Not only is Cabo a warm escape from cold winter weather, but the season for whales migrating up the coast is from mid-December until May. Summer months are hotter but usually less crowded.

Most guests fly into Los Cabos International Airport. From there, it is a 45-minute drive to Pacifica. While you can arrange rideshare or take a taxi, you can book transportation through Pueblo Bonito when you make your trip plans.
No matter what experiences you choose to customize your romantic beach getaway, whether a private luxury experience on the beach or adventure tours on the open ocean, Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and Cabo San Lucas have enough variety for every couple looking for a special trip.
