U.S. Marshals Arrested at Heathrow After Drunken Behavior on Delta Flight

Two U.S. Marshals traveling on a Delta Air Lines flight from New York City to London’s Heathrow Airport were detailed upon landing for drunken behavior on the flight.
One, Michael Brereton, 39, was charged with entering the aircraft while drunk, the Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement. He was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexual assault but that charge was later dropped.
The identity of the second U.S. Marshal was not available at press time.
Brereton appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The U.S. Marshal Service said it was cooperating with relevant agencies with respect to the investigation.
“The U.S. Marshals Service takes seriously any allegations of misconduct by its employees,” it said in a statement. “The alleged actions of the employees do not reflect the professionalism of the thousands of employees of the USMS or its core values.”
The two marshals were traveling on Delta Flight 1 Tuesday night to carry out the extradition of a criminal to the United States when a female passenger complained to members of the cabin crew that she had been inappropriately touched.
Delta only confirmed “unruly passenger behavior,” saying that Flight1 had been met by local law enforcement and that the airline is cooperating with the investigation.
