7 Christmas Movies I Bet You Haven’t Thought About

Sure, you can watch Elf , Bad Santa , Scrooged or even The Snowman over Christmas, but what if you’re after something different? Here are 7 Christmas movies that you probably haven’t thought about.

There’s nothing quite like a good ol’ Christmas movie to help the turkey, prawns and pudding go down. Die Hard , Gremlins , Home Alone —they all take a turn on our TV over the festive season.
But for something different, here are 7 Christmas movies that I bet you either didn’t realise were Christmas films or haven’t heard of at all.
You can see which services you can stream these shows with Just Watch .
Krampus (2015)
Santa’s evil alter ego, Krampus is an obvious though little-heard-of Christmas movie that’s flown under the radar. Chilling, shocking, yet still quite funny, starring Toni Collette, Adam Scott, Allison Holman and David Kochner.
Mean Girls (2004)
Written by Tina Fey, this high school comedy follows a former home-schooler into the ‘a-list’ girls’ group with a view to taking them all down. It is also set partially during Christmas! Starring Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan and Amy Poehler.
Go! (1999)
Pulp Fiction-esque, Go! Follows multiple characters through various adventures in the aftermath of a Christmas drug deal to create this fast-paced comic thriller with Sarah Polley, Jay Mohr and Katie Holmes.
12 Monkeys (1995)
This time-travelling apocalypse thriller sees Bruce Willis hopping through the years (and at some points Christmas), trying to save the world from a deadly virus. Also with Brad Pitt and Madeleine Stowe.
Mixed Nuts (1994)
This dark comedy follows the antics of a crisis hotline firm at Christmas. With names like Steve Martin, Juliette Lewis, Adam Sandler and Liev Schreiber.
The Princess Bride (1987)
Somewhat obliquely Christmasy, this cult classic fantasy adventure story begins in a sickly boy’s bedroom that’s still garnished with tinsel and festive baubles. If you haven’t seen this one, it’s an any-time watch! Fred Savage, Peter Falk, Billy Crystal and Andre the Giant star.
Trading Places (1983)
Hilarious (yet these days occasionally problematic) comedy where wealthy trader Dan Ackroyd and homeless sweet-talker Eddie Murphy swap lifestyles in a secret social experiment in wintery Manhattan.
