Swagat Indian resto gets grand upgrade
Explore Swagat Indian Resto’s Rich Culinary Heritage
Swagat, known for its authentic home-style Indian Cuisine, recently marked its 20th-year milestone with the opening of its new and bigger restaurant in Makati City.
Located at the RCI Building along Rada St. in Legazpi Village, it prides itself as authentically Indian with a modern flair, with its merry mix of traditional cuisine, eclectic flavors, and eye-candy interiors.
Klufi and Masala Chai
An impressive upgrade from its two past versions, the new Swagat boasts an enhanced and streamlined menu that best represents the South Asian subcontinent’s rich culinary heritage.
Diners can tickle their taste buds with individual appetizers, kebabs, or the more diverse platters—the vegetarian starter platter, an assortment of chef-handpicked vegetarian specialties. There is also the chaat platter which features a teaser version of street food favorites which one gets to feast in major cities like New Delhi, Bangalore or Mumbai.

Lovers of grilled food can feast on non-vegetarian tandoor platter, an assortment of the chef’s handpicked clay oven-cooked specialties, such as  murgh  (chicken), mutton and seafood, which all have generous servings for sharing.
For rice meals, there is the biryani made up fragrant basmati layered with meat or vegetables marinated in spices, saffron-infused milk, caramelized onions, and aromatic herbs, slow-cooked to perfection in the good old  dum  style.
Swagat’s hotel-like interiors
With mutton,  murgh  or vegetarian flavors, the biryani goes best with  raita  or creamy yogurt combined with assorted fresh vegetables and spices.
Meanwhile, bread eaters can tear into tandoor-baked naan, roti, and paratha which they can dip into or pair with their chosen entrée.

For  mains manpasand  or main course, there’s a variety to choose from which includes seafood,  masala ,  paneer , mutton, curries,  dal , vegetables, and chicken.
With its wide array of non-meat dishes, Swagat can easily qualify as a vegetarian and halal dining for the growing legion of vegans, as well as Muslim diners.
A new recognizable section of the resto is the bar which concocts the usual Indian beverages, refreshing mocktails, signature cocktails, and the sought-after spirits, which lend it the coziness of a watering hole.
Cap a hearty meal with the  Komal ki Kulfi , the cherished popsicle-shaped home-made ice cream, named after the woman behind the resto who meticulously crafted the dessert.
Authentic Indian specialties
Literally meaning “welcome” in the Hindi language, Swagat continues with the time-honored warm Asian hospitality of its staff led by owner Komal Khanchandani.
“With our new store, we want Filipinos to continue experiencing a new level of cultural and healthy gastronomic adventure into the heart of Incredible India. At Swagat, we are honored to have you,” she shares.
The resto’s classy interior is dashed with the feel of hotel dining fit for a modern-day maharajah, with its design inspired by the hues of Indian spices and local elements. To create an immersive dining experience, it has taken a great length to source dining implements, cutlery, ingredients, and ornaments from India.
Listed consistently in the pre-pandemic roster of Esquire Magazine, Summitmedia Publishing, and Master Card as among Metro Manila’s top dining haunts, it is expected to earn rave reviews once more with the consummate experience it is offering.

More than two decades after her foray into the food business, Komal still brims with confidence and pride with her new masterpiece. She has boldly posed the same dare to diners since day 1: “Don’t pay if you are not satisfied with the food.”
