An unrelenting barrage of winter storms and blasts of Arctic air have resulted in at least 37 storm-related deaths across nine states, and Father Winter isn’t finished with us yet.
Another round of severe winter weather will move across the central and eastern United States, bringing with them hazardous driving conditions, thousands of flight delays and cancellations, and the potential to put more people in harm’s way.
More snow is forecast from the Midwest to the East on Friday. The white stuff could once again blanket Washington, DC, and New York City, two cities which waited nearly two years for an inch of snow ended early this week.

The National Weather Service forecast for Thursday was for ice and snow in the Northwest, a quick blast of snow in the north-central and Northeast U.S., and heavy lake-effect snow to continue.

Since January 12, fatalities have been reported in Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
In Oregon, a power line fell on a car during an ice storm and killed three people while also injuring a baby in the vehicle. Five people died in Pennsylvania when their minivan lost control on a snow-covered stretch of I-81, the coroner’s office in Lackawanna County said. And in Tennessee, where seven fatalities have been reported, a box truck driver was killed Monday night after losing control of his vehicle on a snowy Knoxville highway. The truck then careened into a tractor-trailer, police said.
As of 12:30 p.m. Thursday, over 6,138 flights into, within, and out of the United States have experienced delays over the past 36 hours, while an additional 1,762 have experienced delays.
Over 85,000 homes and businesses in the Pacific Northwest were without power Thursday morning, according to Poweroutages.us, which tracks such information. The power outages are largely concentrated in Oregon.
