Father Winter Becomes a Quick Change Artist: Above Temperatures Along With Ice, Snow, and Fog

Father Winter apparently has a strange sense of humor. First, there was the bitter Arctic outbreak, which is still with us. Coming on the heels of that will be a thaw. After that, it may come down to what the polar vortex does — and the jury is still out on that.
Above-average temperatures are forecast for the entire Lower 48 starting Tuesday, according to a temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center.
But if a thaw sounds good, it comes with a catch, namely ice, snow, fog and flooding risk the central and eastern United States.
The rapid change in weather will likely result in flight delays, in particular for travelers in the Midwest and Northeast. The number of delays and cancellations on flights within, into, and out of the United States has been slowly declining since it was over 9,000 on Friday but that could come to an abrupt end as the week starts.
Still, the near-term forecast for the Lower 48 according to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center is for warmer temperatures in the eight-to-14 day forecast
Meanwhile, the Met Office puts the United Kingdom on alert as Storm Isha roars in. Predicting that “everybody” would be affected by the storm, the agency advised that people stay away from windows ahead the storm, forecast to batter the country with gales of up to 90 mph (145 km/h).  It warned of a risk to life from flying debris, as well as the possibility of power outages and damage to buildings.
