JetBlue Airways announced the appointment of Warren Christie to the position of chief operating officer.
The promotion will be effective February 12, 2024, concurrent with previously announced transition of current president and chief operating officer Joanna Geraghty to the position of CEO at the airline.
The airline said that Mr. Christie will report to Ms. Geraghty. Mr. Christie’s portfolio currently has him responsible for safety, security, fleet operations, airports and JetBlue University.
Explaining the appointment, Ms. Geraghty said that it will leverage Mr. Christie’s 35 years of aviation, of which 21 of those years were at JetBlue.  “He is well positioned to help us tackle the unique challenges we face while continuing to lead with safety as a core element of our culture,” she said.
Mr. Christie joined JetBlue in 2003, after a brief stint at United Airlines as a pilot.  Prior to that, he served in the U.S. Navy, which he joined in 1988, as a naval officer and naval aviator. He taught at the Navy Fighter Weapons School, popularly known as Top Gun, which is a navy training program that teaches air-combat maneuvering tactics and techniques to selected naval aviators and naval flight officers, who then return to their operating units as surrogate instructors.
