Corinthia Hotel Budapest Review: Luxury Stay in Budapest

For our Viking River Cruise along the Danube River, my daughter, Christina, and I purchased a two-day pre-cruise extension in Budapest, Hungary. We had two hotel options and opted for the 5-star Corinthia Hotel Budapest  (Four Seasons was the other option).

Christina and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the luxurious Corinthia Hotel Budapest. Check-in was smooth and a bottle of champagne was waiting for us in our elegant room. Friendly staff and concierge services made for a delightful stay.

About Corinthia Hotel Budapest

This French Renaissance-style hotel, which has an Art Deco interior, is part of the worldwide Corinthia Hotels chain. But its history goes back to 1896 when it opened as the Grand Hotel Royal. Its grand elegance is evident throughout, from the sweeping staircase and Italian marble features in guestrooms to the Royal Spa.

Corinthia Hotel Budapest Location

The centrally located luxury hotel is just minutes from major attractions. Christina and I walked to most of them and took the subway to the Szechenyi Thermal Bath. Other nearby attractions include the Hungarian State Opera House, Budapest Christmas Market and St. Stephen’s Basilica. Heroes’ Square is just a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

In addition, the Király utca / Erzsébet körút Tram Stop is steps away and the Oktogon Station is a mere five-minute walk at the most. And it’s about a 30-minute drive to the airport.

Spacious Guest Rooms

The hotel has 437 rooms spanning six floors that surround a sunny atrium. Over half a dozen room types include deluxe rooms, deluxe suites, executive room, executive suites and presidential suites. Guests staying in the latter have access to the executive club and/or executive lounge. Depending on the room type, guests can choose from twin beds or a king bed.

Our spacious superior room on the fifth floor overlooked the atrium and was around the corner from the Royal Spa and swimming pool. Superior rooms have an entry, spacious bathroom with a separate tub and shower, a work space and sitting area. Room amenities include air conditioning, a minibar, coffeemaker, safe and free wifi.

Brasserie and Atrium Restaurant

We ate breakfast in this restaurant the two mornings we stayed at the hotel. The extensive breakfast buffet was very delicious and something we looked forward to! In addition to the buffet’s variety of breads, cheeses, eggs, potatoes, meats and fruits, a friendly chef whipped up omelets and Hungarian specialties. Each morning, the Hungarian specialty of the day was posted in the restaurant. For example, one morning the specialty was a scrambled egg dish with red bell peppers, onions and paprika (a common staple in Hungary).

In the afternoons, tea is served in the lobby. Adjacent to the lobby is Le Bar, a cozy spot for post-dinner drinks and live music.

Royal Spa

Guests staying in deluxe rooms or higher have complimentary access to the art deco-style spa, which is tucked away on the fifth floor. However, even if you’re not staying in a deluxe room, you can book a spa treatment to enjoy the spa facilities. These include an indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and fitness center.
