Tesla Owners Can’t Unplug Their Charging Plugs in Cold Weather

A Tesla in warmer weather.
It’s hard to be a pioneer sometimes… especially in cold weather. Four weeks ago, Tesla left some of its owners quite literally out in the cold when owners of the futuristic electric vehicles found that their batteries had discharged a good amount of their charge.
More than a few Teslas became inoperative while on line for charging and had to be towed, versus a mere jump start from roadside assistance or the local American Automobile Association chapter, plus a number of them never left their overnight parking spot at all.
Now it turns out that Tesla has another cold-weather problem, possibly their oddest of all: Owners are finding the charging cable gets stuck in the car’s charging port.

Ahhh, we so yearn for the few moments it would take one back in the day to wait for a diesel’s glow plugs to warm up.

The issue, which impacted Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, is addressed by a new software update. In addition to preparing the battery for charging, the new feature automatically starts to warm up the car’s charge port inlet to make it easier to pull the charging cable out.
The new release will add functionality that will also tell Tesla drivers how much time they can expect until their battery is warm enough for DC fast charging.
