About Savannah
Savannah is a coastal town that is situated next to the Savannah River. The city has an old-world charm that can be seen through its lush parks, stately squares, and interesting antebellum architecture.
The pace of Savannah is relaxed, as is most of the south. And the rhythm of the town invites you to indulge in its history and southern hospitality.
The town is picturesque with residential squares framed by historic homes and trees dripping with Spanish moss. Popular spots like the beautiful Forsyth Park provide a central green space, while landmarks like the Gothic Revival Cathedral of St. John the Baptist showcase the city’s diverse architectural heritage.
Millions visit annually to explore this “Hostess City of the South,” and enjoy the liveliness of the City Market, River Street shops, restaurants, haunted history tours, and timeless ambiance. 
Savannah has an incredible arts and food scene that ranges from cozy cafes to highly-rated farm-to-table meals created by celebrity chefs.  
This charming city offers everything you’ll want for a perfect girl’s getaway weekend. 
How to Get from the Airport to Downtown

I always look for public transportation when traveling but there were not many options to get downtown from the airport.  
Instead, we used an Uber to get to our hotel. The ride took about thirty minutes without traffic and cost less than $30.  
3-Day Savannah Itinerary
In this article, I’ll share the highlights of my own recent girls’ weekend in Savannah. 
From ghost tours and cocktail tastings to shopping for antiques and strolling through the historic districts, Savannah offers a variety of activities and attractions to please any taste. 
You’ll also find recommendations on where to stay, dine, and party in this walkable port city. 
Get ready for a weekend filled with laughter, making memories, and exploring everything that Savannah has to offer on a getaway with your closest friends. 
Whether you’re looking for some quality bonding time or just some much-needed fun away, Savannah is sure to deliver.
Day 1: Explore the Historic District and Enjoy the Nightlife
Start with a  delicious brunch  at one of the many cafes or restaurants in the city. The Collins Quarter is a popular cafe that serves brunch daily with items like avocado toast, breakfast bowls, pancakes, and eggs benedict.
Take a  hop-on hop-off trolley  tour to see the sights and learn about the history and culture of Savannah. The  Savannah Slow Ride  tour is a great way to pedal your way through the day while meeting fellow travelers. 
Visit some of the beautiful and historic homes, such as the  Mercer-Williams House or  the  Telfair Museums .

Have a photo shoot at  Forsyth Park , the iconic fountain, or the  Cathedral Basilica of St. John  the Baptist. These spots are so Instagrammable and will create memories for a lifetime. 
Dine at a local favorite, such as  Shuga Girl , a bakery and cafe that offers sweet and savory treats. Or stop in at the Maple Street Biscuit Company on Broughton Street for melt-in-your-mouth southern bites.
Hit the town and enjoy the nightlife at  Rocks on the Roof , a rooftop bar with stunning views of the river and the city, or  Moon River Brewing C o., a haunted brewery with a beer garden and live music.
Day 2: Relax at the Beach and Indulge in Southern Cuisine
Drive or take a shuttle to  Tybee Island or Hilton Head , and spend the day soaking up the sun, swimming, surfing, kayaking, or biking.
Have a picnic lunch or grab a bite at one of the  beachside eateries . North Beach Bar and Grill has great tacos and beverages to keep you fueled for the afternoon.
Just a few steps from the grill is the  Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum , the oldest and tallest lighthouse in Georgia.
Head back to Savannah and treat yourself to a spa session or a massage at one of the many wellness centers in the city.
Savor the flavors of  Southern cuisine  at a fine dining restaurant, such as The Olde Pink House, The Grey, or Elizabeth on 37th.
End the night with a  ghost tour or a pub crawl  and experience the spooky and spirited side of Savannah.
Alternatively, take a drive to the resort town of Hilton Head where upscale shopping and dining await your arrival.  
There are several spots to book a relaxing spa experience for a bit of self-care. The beaches are just as beautiful in Hilton Head as they are on Tybee Island.
Day 3: Shop, Sip, and Say Goodbye
It may be your final day in Savannah, but the fun doesn’t stop! Check out the boutiques, galleries, and antique shops in the  Savannah Historic District , the  City Market , or the  Broughton Street Shopping District .
You’ll love sampling some of Savannah’s local specialties, such as pralines, pecan pies, peach cobbler, or honey.
Had enough retail therapy? Book a relaxing  luncheon cruise  with your besties on a riverboat! Sightseeing along the Savannah River gives a unique way to see the harbor and Old Fort Jackson while listening to historical facts. 
Have a farewell brunch or lunch at The Ordinary Pub , where you can enjoy bottomless mimosas or “Togosas”, a to-go version of the drink. This gastronomic experience is everything you didn’t know you needed. Don’t leave without trying the Pork Belly Donut Sliders.
Don’t forget to share your favorite memories, photos, and souvenirs with your girlfriends, and thank them for a wonderful trip.
Next, catch your flight or drive home and start planning your next adventure! Can’t stop, won’t stop.
 
Where to Stay in Savannah
The city has several quaint neighborhoods that are walkable. Midtown and Ardsley Park are great if you don’t want to be on the well-beaten path.     
The Victorian District is just south of downtown with gorgeous Victorian homes. It’s most easily identified as the southern end of Forsyth Park. The streets and homes on East Gaston Street are so picturesque.
We chose the historic downtown for our stay because this is where many of Savannah’s top attractions like River Street, City Market, and Forsyth Park are located. 
It also made it easy for us to get around without a car. We took advantage of the savings so that we could splurge on nicer accommodations. 
The scenery is quaintly covered with cobblestone streets, public squares, antebellum architecture, and restored 18th and 19th-century buildings that give downtown its classic Southern charm.
When I walked around this area, I found lots of trendy shops and restaurants. My favorite find was an old ice cream called Leopold’s.

 
The Best Time to Visit Savannah
Savannah lies on the coast in the southeastern part of Georgia and sits next to the Savannah River.  
With temperatures being warmer in the south, almost any time of the year is great for visiting but the most ideal times to visit Savannah are typically in Spring, from March to May.  
Summer brings hot and humid weather which may be great for the beach. The temperatures hover in the 90s from June to August and combined with humidity, it may feel unpleasant to most people.
If you travel during these months, plan sightseeing activities early in the morning or later in the evening near sundown. I learned this lesson while traveling abroad in August. It can help beat the worst of the heat in Savannah. It will also help to remain hydrated, wear light clothing, and stay in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible.
In Fall, from September to November, the daytime temperatures are mild and the humidity is low. This part of the year is also a good time for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
We visited in early October and the temperatures were in the high 70s. We didn’t need a coat during the day or night. We were quite comfortable walking around town without overheating. 
Final Thoughts on a Girl’s Guide to Savannah
Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the Southern region of the US. If you are like me, you’ll want to know what makes it so special.
The town has beautiful green parks, cobblestone streets, historic architecture, fabulous nightlife, and phenomenal food. However, I will always remember Savannah for its quintessential Southern charm and beauty. 
The historic district in Savannah is one of the largest National Historic Landmark districts in the country.
If you’re an architecture buff, you’ll love the restored 19th-century homes, churches, and other buildings that showcase various architectural styles, from Georgian, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne. The city oozes with historic beauty.

To find great activities in any area I use Get Your Guide and Viator . If we are visiting a city with lots of popular attractions I always check CityPass and GoCard to see if they have discount cards available.



When I want to book a full-on multi-day tour I use TourRadar . They’ve got fantastic weekly deals. If I am going somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean I use Apple Vacations .



Rent a Car or Take a Lyft



More often than not Lyft is cheaper than Uber. Use my Lyft link for an $18 credit ! For a car rental in any country, I recommend Discover Cars .
