Amex Platinum is Losing Another Way to Use Monthly Entertainment Credits

If you've got *amex platinum* in your wallet, prepare to lose yet another benefit come early May.
Among the laundry list of benefits , Amex Platinum cardholders get $240 a year (doled out in $20 monthly installments) to use on select digital entertainment platforms. But as Frequent Miler first reported, American Express is set to remove SiriusXM as an option as of May 8.
An American Express representative has not yet confirmed the change or whether another platform will replace it. But a disclaimer showing the satellite radio provider's removal began showing up on some Platinum cardholders' statements in March.

It's just the latest change in a game of musical chairs for this monthly entertainment credit.
Just last fall, Amex dropped Audible from the list of eligible services for the Platinum card's digital entertainment credit while adding the Wall Street Journal in its place. And back in 2022, Amex made news by adding the Disney Bundle (Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+) to the roster of eligible entertainment platforms. That's a lot of change in just the last two or so years since Amex first added these monthly credits to the Platinum Card.
To take advantage, you first must enroll for the benefit online, then use your Platinum Card at one of the eligible merchants, automatically receiving a statement credit for up to $20 each month. Here's the full list of options, as of publication:

Disney+
Hulu
ESPN+
The New York Times
The Wall Street Journal
Peacock
SiriusXM (set to end on May 8, 2024)

Will Amex Replace SiriusXM with Another Merchant?
If you're keeping score at home, Amex has now removed two available options for the digital entertainment credit on the Platinum card in just the last few months: Audible and now Sirius XM.
While we have no idea what Amex has up its sleeve for this benefit and the Platinum card as a whole, it seems like this is due for a bit of a refresh – or at least one new option. That's exactly what they did last fall, when they offset the loss of Audible by adding the Wall Street Journal as an eligible option.
Worst of all, the end of SiriusXM means Amex Platinum cardholders will have no audio options, period, to use this credit. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I'd love to see a music streaming service like Spotify, YouTube Premium, or Apple Music make the list to satisfy the music and podcast lovers out there.

Bottom Line
This is Siriusly annoying.
The Amex Platinum card is set to lose SiriusXM as an available option for the card's $20 monthly digital entertainment credit come May 8. That means you've got just two more months to cover a SiriusXM subscription by paying with your Platinum Card.
Amex isn't saying what's next, but here's hoping they eventually replace it with an even better alternative. Stay tuned.
