Hilton Worldwide announced plans to open its first Tempo by Hilton property in New York City.
The Tempo by Hilton Times Square will open in 2023 in the heart of the Theater District in the newly rebuilt TSX Broadway building, a 46-story tower that was built over the Palace Theater and was previously home to the Embassy Suites Times Square, later a DoubleTree Suites.
Tempo, which was introduced in early 2020, is intended to be “an approachable lifestyle brand curated to serve a growing segment of ‘modern achievers,’” the hotelier said at launch, as well as be a product that helps guests “live better lives.”
Key elements of Tempo hotels include a lifestyle component, modern design, and a bar and restaurant designed to attract locals in addition to hotel guests.
“Tempo by Hilton is the latest example of our unique ability to anticipate what our guests are looking for,” said Christopher Nassetta, the company’s CEO at a launch event in January 2020.
The original TSX Broadway tower was partially demolished starting in 2019 and nearly 75% of the building was razed to create a new 46-story mixed-use property that was also dubbed the TSX Broadway.
The 1,743-seat Palace Theater, which was designed by Milwaukee architects Kirchoff and Rose and opened in 1913, was a premier vaudeville house that later became a movie palace and, in 1965, a Broadway theater operated by the Nederlander Organization. The Palace closed in 2018 in advance of the renovation and was lifted 30’ (9.1 m) above street level as part of the renovation, in order to provide for street-level retail space in the new building.  It is slated to reopen in 2023 after a complete restoration.
The 661-key hotel will feature an open sky lobby on the 11th floor that offers communal working spaces as well as a fitness center.
Dining options for guests include a bar and lounge, an outdoor dining terrace overlooking Times Square, and a traditional restaurant.
