Weekend of Tornadoes Leaves At Least 5 Dead

Light snowfall in wetern Nebraska in the week prior to the storm
Two separate storm systems wreaked havoc in the Midwest over the weekend, registering close to 80 tornadoes on Friday, leaving at least five people dead by Sunday night.
Thousands of people are now in the process of sifting through the remains of destroyed homes and businesses trying to recover whatever they can salvage.
Early warning systems were credited with preventing additional death and injury.
The storms produced dozens of tornadoes that struck communities in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri, with warnings for tornadoes occurring in Texas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Over 100,000 homes and businesses were left without power as a consequence of the storms.
Meteorologists told Frequent Business Traveler and The Travelist that it was unusual to have tornadoes emerge simultaneously from two independent storm systems.
The storms are expected to continue eastward on Monday.
