Quick Points: Earn bonus Membership Rewards points with Amex Offers

Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers.
American Express cardholders can save hundreds of dollars annually on everyday purchases through Amex Offers . It’s couponing but easier — enrolling in offers is as simple as pressing “Add to Card.”
The vast majority of Amex Offers give cardholders a cash-back discount after spending a certain amount, but sometimes, you may be targeted to earn thousands of points based on spending. Given the high value of Membership Rewards points , these promotions can be more lucrative than getting a statement credit back to your account.
Let’s discuss how to find and enroll in these offers and explain some of the more valuable ones we’ve seen in recent months .

Earn thousands of points with Amex Offers
Amex Offers are targeted and ever-changing, and you’ll usually see up to 100 active promotions on your card at a time. Just because you add an offer to your card doesn’t mean you’re obligated to spend that amount. Therefore, I will typically add any offers that seem remotely appealing to me, even if I don’t purchase with that vendor.
For example, here are a few deals we’ve previously seen on Amex cards: You could earn five extra Membership Rewards points for every dollar spent (on top of the normal earn rates for your American Express card) at Skims or Sephora. If you would rather book a cruise, Cunard Line offers the same bonus Membership Rewards for every dollar spent, up to 50,000 points.
If jewelry is more your style, Gorjana offers 2,500 bonus Membership Rewards for every $125 spent; each cardmember can earn this up to two times.
Finally, if you have The Platinum Card® from American Express , you can receive an impressive 10 bonus Membership rewards points per dollar spent at Wine.com (up to 4,000 bonus points) to celebrate the card’s 40th birthday,
So, a $400 wine purchase would result in 4,000 bonus points. Since TPG values Membership Rewards points at 2 cents each, these 4,000 bonus points are worth $80. This is a fantastic return on a $400 purchase you might have planned to make anyway.
Depending on the merchant, don’t forget to double dip your points-earning opportunity with online shopping portals for even more bonus points and miles on your purchase.
Enjoy cash back with Amex Offers
Some Amex Offers provide cash back rather than Membership Rewards points, so you can choose which reward you would rather earn. Current cash back offers include:

Hilton:  Spend $180 or more and get $40 back.
Delta: Spend $180 or more via Amex Travel and get $40 back. (You must book through Amex Travel for this offer, where prices may be higher than booking directly with the airline, so do your research.)
JetBlue:  Spend $200 or more and get $50 back.
Hertz:  Spend $150 or more and get $40 back.

Again, if you were planning to spend these amounts with these travel providers anyway, this is an easy way to save real money on your spending.
Note: Some offers are targeted; offers may be expired.

Bottom line
Most credit card issuers have versions of these merchant offers, including Chase Offers and Citi Merchant Offers . However, the promotions are rarely as lucrative as those offered by Amex Offers.
While it’s unlikely that you’ll use up every Amex Offer, these promotions are a great way to save money and earn easy points if you were going to make that purchase anyway.
Check your Amex offers regularly, as some of the best promotions offer thousands of points for spending.
