The Geneva International Motor Show to End After More Than a Century

Organizers of the storied Geneva International Motor Show, or Salon International de l’Auto, traditionally one of the most important auto shows in the world, said they would discontinue the show indefinitely, citing insufficient market conditions that have persisted as a result of the global pandemic.

The 90th Geneva Motor Show, held in early 2024, was the first since 2019, and would also be its last, according to the president of Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile, Alexandre de Senarclens.
De Senarclens cited automakers’ increasing lack of interest in participating in major shows for making the change. In addition, the growth of the Mondial de l’Auto, the Paris Auto Show as well as the Munich Motor Show, which is also known as IAA Mobility, have been encroaching on the Geneva show in recent years.

De Senarclens said that further investment in the show was deemed “too risky” as a result and that the organizers would focus on the 2025 show that they had already planned for Qatar.
“This extremely regrettable decision should not detract from the efforts and determination with which we have tried to regain our success,” said de Senarclens. “The teams had put all their determination into reviving this motor show after the Covid pandemic.”
