Bark Air, a new airline that is focused on canine-friendly travel, operated its first-ever flight on May 24, operating it from Westchester County Airport in New York to Los Angeles International Airport.
The doggone friendly carrier, which offers what it terms “the world’s first air travel experience designed specifically for dogs first, and their human companions second,” reported that the maiden voyage was completely full.
Just six days later, Westchester County filed suit against the airline.
Attorneys for Westchester County, New York, said that the airline is operating out of the Westchester County Airport’s private jet area contrary to county law. Only commercial and chartered aircraft with nine or fewer seats are permitted at the private jet terminal.
Meanwhile, Bark Air uses Gulfstream Aerospace GV jets which have 14 seats for humans.
A spokesman for the company said that, “while Bark doesn’t comment on litigation, we don’t believe this will impact our operations.”
Bark Air is a subsidiary of Bark, which also offers Bark Box, a subscription
The airline says it offers the “white glove experience typical of a human’s first-class experience” and redirects the “all that pampering to pooches.”
