JetBlue Airways announced plans to offer service to multiple destinations from Long Island MacArthur Airport later this year as well as news that it is entering into a codeshare partnership with British Airways.
The New York-based airline said that it plans to offer non-stop flights from MacArthur to Orlando International, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, and Palm Beach International airports starting in October of this year.
In making the announcement, the airline noted that “[L]ong Island is an integral part of the New York Metro area” and that the addition of MacArthur will give New Yorkers more flying options.
“I have long encouraged JetBlue to start service at LI MacArthur because Long Islanders need increased travel options,” said Senator Chuck Schumer, the senate majority leader, in a statement concerning the news, adding that “the success of the airport is key to a more vibrant Long Island economy.”
Separately, JetBlue and British Airways announced a codeshare partnership that will allow JetBlue passengers to include domestic BA flights on their JetBlue itineraries and BA flyers to incorporate JetBlue flights on theirs. The agreement covers 75 city pairs linking New York and Boston with other cities served by JetBlue as well as 17 city pairs from London to other European cities.
The U.S. Department of Transportation gave its approval to the deal earlier in the week.
Members of British Airways’ frequent-flyer program, Executive Club, will be eligible to earn Avios points on codeshare flights.
