American Airlines Lets Elite Members Give ‘Status for a Day’

American Airlines introduced a new benefit for members of its AAdvantage frequent-flyer program with elite status.  Members can confer elite status to friends and family members for a day – presumably for their day of travel – via the “Enhance With Miles” program.
The program is quite straight forward in many respects. Members can redeem miles for someone to have status for a day as the member passes the program’s Loyalty Points thresholds.
For example, a member with Gold status can, when passing the 40,000 Loyalty Point mark, redeem AAdvantage miles to gift a friend or family member AAdvantage Gold Status for a day, or the member can gift himself Executive Platinum status, also for a day.
At the extreme end, a member with Executive Platinum status who passes the 200,000 Loyalty Point mark can redeem AAdvantage miles to gift someone AAdvantage Executive Platinum status for a day.
The purchase of such status cannot be changed or modified and it is not refundable.  Status for a day must be purchased at last seven days prior to travel. In addition, the status is only valid on American marketed and operated flights.
