Apple’s upgrade to its Maps app, a makeover that includes more accurate details such as trees and grass, exact building shapes, parking lots, sports facilities, and parking lots, has been added to six Central European countries, namely Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovenia.
The new version of Maps is now available in over two dozen countries and territories as well as all 50 U.S. states.
The move to an improved Maps experience comes as Apple replaces third-party map data with its own data that it collects from its fleet of Apple Maps vehicles as well as the use of high-resolution satellite imagery and anonymized segments of navigation sessions from iPhone users.
The new maps offer more detailed road coverage, better navigation, custom-designed 3D models of popular landmarks, Flyover, and more.
The upgrade started in 2018 with Northern California during iOS 12 beta testing and was later extended to Southern California, Arizona, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
In June 2019 at its developers conference, Apple said that the new maps would cover the entire United States by the end of 2019, a commitment it met with time to spare.
