5 Reasons to Visit Mallorca in Winter

Mallorca is always a good idea! While high tourism season is in the summer months between May-September, there are many reasons to visit Mallorca in winter! If you’re looking for an authentic experience with few people, mild temperatures, and hoping to stretch your dollar- you’ve come to the right place. Here are 5 reasons to visit Mallorca in winter!






Very few tourists



One of the best reasons to visit Mallorca in winter is that it’s considered the “off-season.” Meaning, very few tourists visit the island during the winter months and you’ll feel like you have it all to yourself! I never once had any issue finding parking, feeling crowded, or like I was in a big group. In fact, the time I felt the largest crowds was at the Cuevas del Dranch , one of the most popular attractions on the island. Even then, my tour timeslot was far from capacity and I’ll admit, it felt a little nice to be around like-minded tourists. We exchanged tips and told stories from the island while we waited in line.

It’s significantly cheaper



In the winter months, you’ll find that almost everything in Mallorca is cheaper. If you’re looking to stretch your dollar and “treat yo self” a bit- you’ll want to visit Mallorca in winter! I stayed three nights at Finca Hotel Rural Es Turó , which is an all-suite luxury boutique hotel located about fifteen minutes from Caló des Moro. In the winter, I paid only €90 per night, while in the summer months a room will go for around €300 per night. That’s quite a significant savings! While yes, it was too chilly to dip in their infinity pool, it was still warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the view. And you won’t just save on accommodations! Everything else from rental cars, to restaurants, to attractions all offer additional savings in the winter months. If you don’t mind not being able to swim in the Calas or lounge on the beaches, this is the perfect time to visit a beautiful island for a fraction of the cost!






Easy driving and parking



With fewer tourists, comes fewer cars on the road, which equal easy drives. Driving all around Mallorca was a breeze and felt like I had many big roads to myself! Even in the towns that are home to year-round residents, I never once had an issue finding a parking spot. Locals that I met told me that in the summer months, these fill up fast and tourists usually end up parking outside of town and making long walks in. I felt very lucky for how easy it was for me! One of my favorite drives was between the towns of Fornalutx and Lluc along MA-10 . Cruising up through the Serra de Tramuntana along winding mountain roads was a major highlight. I rarely saw other cars on the road so that meant I had the freedom to stop and pull off for photo ops as often as I’d like.

Mild temperatures



Maybe it’s because I was coming from Buffalo in February (aka COLD), but I found the temperature on Mallorca to be delightful! Each day was a high in the 60’s, which meant I was usually fine in leggings and a sweatshirt or light jacket. While definitely not warm enough for beaches or swimming, it was perfect weather for outdoor hikes and wandering around the small towns. In fact, I can only imagine how brutal it must be in the dead of summer. I don’t do very well in heat, so these temperatures were perfectly comfortable for me! The nights would get cooler (in the 40’s), but once the sun set I usually made my way indoors anyway, so it was no trouble!






Caló des Moro is easy to get to



If visiting the iconic Caló des Moro is on your list (if not, it should be!), then the easiest way to see it is to visit Mallorca in winter! In the summer months, visitors have to park in a lot in the town of Cala Llombards and walk about 15-20 minutes just to get to the trailhead. Then hike down to the beach! In the winter months however, I was able to park right on the street near the trailheads ( here , and here ) with zero issue. Having easy access to iconic views across Mallorca really made the trip so much more enjoyable!



Other easy viewpoints to get to in the winter include Es Pontàs , Torre del Serral dels Falcons , and Sa Foradada .
