Family Hotels Yorkshire – I am always on the look out for good family friendly hotels in Yorkshire.  The ones that really cater to children and families, not just the ones that will allow the kids to stay in your room with you but don’t provide anything family friendly at all!

The White Swan Inn

We recently tested out some of the family friendly features at The White Swan Inn, with adjoining rooms, friendly staff, lovely sociable areas and board games!   See our full review here.  From The White Swan Inn website: We take great pleasure in welcoming families to our country inn. That’s why we ensure our accommodation is flexible enough for youngsters to stay too. Whether it’s pull-out sofa beds in our Superior Vintage rooms or inter-connecting Hideaway rooms for children that prefer sleeping by themselves, we’ve got you covered. Board games and toys are available in The Bothy, while all rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Crown Spa Hotel, Scarborough
7-11 Esplanade, Scarborough YO11 2AG
If you are looking for something a bit more upmarket in Scarborough, then the Crown Spa Hotel could be for you.  We stayed with the children in a large room with a small room leading off it, with two single beds and their own flatscreen TV.  It was an ideal set up and much better for younger families than adjoining rooms – the only door from their room led into our room and not into the hotel corridor.  There is a pool that is included.  They have family swim times (two three hour sessions, twice a day).  The restaurant have a children’s menu and children were welcomed into the restaurant.  See my full review with lots of photos of the room and the food here.   There is lots to do in Scarborough for the kids too.

Rockliffe Hall
Hurworth-on-Tees, Darlington DL2 2DU – on the County Durham/North Yorkshire Border.
Hotels don’t come much more family friendly than Rockliffe Hall.   It’s a lovely, luxury hotel that welcomes children.  Have a look at ‘Misch-Masch’ in the hotel grounds.  It’s a series for quirky wooden pods that each house something different.  In one you will find a pool table, and in another you will find a cinema where you can relax on their leather bucket chairs and watch your favourite films.  Nearby you will find an excellent adventure playground.  The hotel also has a very large swimming pool, hydro pool and spa.  We visited the spa while a child minder looked after the kids (and they loved it!). We reviewed Rockliffe Hall here.

Tickton Grange
Main St, Beverley HU17 9SH
Tickton Grange is the hotel nearest to us and is set near the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds.  “Room 20, our ‘Family of 4’ is the perfect space for a getaway with the tribe. Nesting at the end of our farmhouse wing, it flaunts a welly worthy entrance porch, a when-the-sun-shines table and chairs, a separate snug complete with a sofa bed for two, a king size bed and a family bathroom; shower and bath included. What more do you need? ”

Middletons York
Cromwell Rd, York YO1 6DS
Middleton’s is located on Skeldergate in the centre of York this would be a great hotel to stay with the children.  A very easy walk to all the York attractions but not on the noisiest street.  Several of their rooms will cater for children and they get good reviews for their family friendly nature on TripAdvisor.  (as an aside, my Mum worked here in the 80’s – not that it’s related of course!
