Self-proclaimed “Uncarrier” T-Mobile unveiled its latest initiative, Phone Freedom.  The program includes an upgrade plan and options to assist customers in getting out of their current smartphone contracts by paying off the balance.
The Go5G Plus is a new wireless plan that includes an upgraded device every two years.  It’s available to both new and existing customers and currently includes a free third line, 50 GB of hotspot data per month, and 15 GB of data in Mexico and Canada each month.
“At T-Mobile, we just think differently,” said the company’s CEO, Mike Sievert.  “We’re focused on being the provider you choose, not the one you’re stuck with. That’s why we created Phone Freedom.”
Customers also receive what T-Mobile terms “added value” of $270 per month in free Netflix and Apple TV+ accounts as well as up to 4K UHD quality streaming; in-flight texting and Wi-Fi where available; unlimited texting, up to 5 GB in data and then up to 256 kbps data in 215 countries when roaming; as well as a one-year membership in the Automobile Association of America.
While the first line of the new plan costs $90 per month, a plan with either two or three lines costs $150, which compares favorably when compared to T-Mobile’s major competitors, AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless.  All taxes and fees are included in the monthly rate.
