Hyatt Hotels announced plans to acquire Mr & Mrs Smith, a hotel booking platform that features what Hyatt termed a “carefully curated” group of 1,500 properties for £53 million ($66.6 million).
The acquisition will give members of the hotel chain’s guest loyalty program, World of Hyatt, the opportunity to earn points and stay at properties in over 20 countries where there are no Hyatt hotels including Anguilla, Croatia, Fiji, and Iceland.
The hotelier’s chief commercial officer, Mark Vondrasek, said that the company is excited about the acquisition, noting that it offers far more unusual venues than a traditional Hyatt property, including rooms located in treehouses, within caves, and suites that are underwater.
Following the close of the acquisition close,  some 100 Mr & Mrs Smith employees will join Hyatt’s Commercial Services team, including co-founder Tamara Lohan, who will serve as the CEO of the Mr & Mrs Smith unit, and co-founder James Lohan, who will be the unit’s chief creative officer.
