JetBlue Airways announced the appointment of Michael Erbeck to the position of vice president for safety.
Mr. Erbeck was a vice president in charge of United Airlines’ Newark and Washington, D.C. hubs until 2021 and has over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry.
“Mike’s broad experience in aviation plus his passion for promoting safety and continuously improving safety performance and safety culture make him a great fit to lead our safety office,” Mr. Christie said.
In his new position, he will report to Warren Christie, JetBlue’s head of safety, security, and fleet operations.  He will serve as the airline’s chief safety officer, with oversight of the carrier’s daily flights.  He will also be responsible for the execution of the airline’s long-term safety strategy.
Mr. Erbeck began his aviation career as a ramp service employee with Continental Airlines in 1993 and automatically became a United Airlines employee when the two carriers merged in 2010. He since has held a variety of positions in customer service, station operations, safety, and risk management.
