Buick, Chevrolet, GMC Recall 1 Million SUVs With Airbags That May Explode

General Motors’ Buick Avenir concept car
General Motors said on Friday it will recall nearly 1 million sport utility vehicles in the United States because the driver’s air-bag inflator may explode during deployment.
The move comes on the heels of a similar recall by BMW and a massive recall by Peloton for two million of its bikes due to seats that may fail when used, causing injury
The massive recall covers 994,763 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured in model years 2014 through 2017 and with modules produced by ARC Automotive Inc.
Dealers will replace the driver’s air-bag module at no cost to the owner.
There has been one confirmed injury thus far.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse suffered facial injuries when the front-driver airbag inflator ruptured during deployment.
An April 25 inspection confirmed that the front driver airbag inflator ruptured in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, General Motors said that it t was aware of two prior ruptures of ARC-manufactured airbag inflators, both in 2015 Chevrolet Traverse vehicles. The General had conducted two earlier and far smaller recalls of about vehicles with 3,000 ARC inflators.
Last week, BMW issued a dire “Do Not Drive” warning for older 3er and 5er Series models with Takata airbags that might explode, and Peleton just days ago was forced to recall two million stationary exercise bicycles due to multiple failures of a very basic part, the post holding the seat up.
