Sunscreen Applicator Hacks For Plus Size Babes

It wouldn’t be fat girl summer without a post about sunscreen, now would it? Whether you’re popping some on before a warm day in the UK or you’re travelling and topping up every few hours, applying sunscreen can be quite difficult in a larger body as there are lots of ‘hard to reach’ places you may not be able to get to.

Don’t worry though, you are NOT alone:

Usually,  if there’s no one around to help,  you’ll end up missing huge patches on your back.

So, what do you do if you’re alone and you need to apply sunscreen? Wearing SPF is incredibly important, so we’ve put together this handy list of some of our favourite tried and tested plus size sunscreen applicator hacks.

Sunscreen Applicator Hacks

Use A Lotion Applicator

We had no idea these existed until a couple of months ago and now they’re something we don’t think we could live without! Designed to help you put lotion in those hard-to-reach places, it works exactly the same for sunscreen! Is it easy to pack and take with you on your travels? Of course! Will you look like the smartest person at the beach reapplying your SPF? For sure! Will everyone be asking you where you got it? Absolutely!

Use A ‘Mini Paint Roller’ Style Applicator

Years ago someone went very for reapplying their sunscreen at the beach with a small paint roller style applicator . It opened them up to lots of unnecessary trolling but here at Plus Size Travel Too, we think they’re an absolute genius. A paint roller is used in the same way as the lotion applicator, however, you may find that it’s a little easier to rub in your sunscreen using this method.

Use A Fake Tan Back Mitt

With the best coverage out of all of the ‘applicators’ in this post, the fake tan back mitt is definitely our favourite! This long, thin piece of fabric has handles on each side meaning once you’ve put your lotion onto it, you can run it from side to side along your back until the suncream has soaked in. Originally designed to help apply self-tan, you can see why such a thorough application is necessary with this one! Plus, it’s easy to pack in any bag as it folds down flat! Ten out of ten!

Use Sunscreen That Has A Spray/Mist Nozzle

Although this doesn’t provide a high amount of coverage as you’re still unable to rub it in, using suncream that has a spray or mist nozzle is a great way to ensure you’re at least covering yourself with a layer of protection. If you’re doing this, make sure you stick to factor 50 for the best results. This is our absolute favourite mist sunscreen – we take it on every single trip!

Use Rub On Sunscreen Sticks For Super Quick Top Ups

If you’re looking for a solution for a super quick top up, rub on sunscreen sticks are a great option. While you still need to be able to reach those hard to reach stots to a certain extent, it doesn’t require any rubbing in and so can be applied easily. We used this one on a recent trip and it was ABSOLUTELY amazing!

Do you have any additional methods to add to the list? We’d love to hear so we can share with others! Let us know in the comments section if you do.
